Universities from Marseille (France), Karlsruhe (Germany) and Barcelona (Spain) offer a joint Master Erasmus Mundus Program in “Photonics Enginering, Nano-photonics and Bio-photonics” (Europhotonics), of 120 ECTS. The 1st semester is given in Marseille, the 2nd semester in Karlsruhe and the 3rd and 4th semesters are elective, one of the choices being Barcelona. In Barcelona there is a collaboration between UPC (coordinating institution), UAB, UB and research institute ICFO to offer a wide choice of itineraries, from more applied to more scientific. Classes in Barcelona are given together with those of the Master in Photonics.
Also an independent PhD (doctorate) Program is offered.
PHOTONICS as a science and technology of Light, is one of the disciplines that are playing a growing and crucial role in the technological development of the twenty-first century. Photonics has been selected as one of the "Key-Enabling Technologies" by the European Union. The Master provides different elective itineraries to promote entrepreneurship among students in Photonics as well as the training of future researchers in the field. At the same time, it allows the students to meet persons and visit institutions from other countries as well as to experience living in France and in Germany.
