Internship in companies. Information for students

The programs of ETSETB cooperative training with the companies have as their main objective a first approach of ETSETB students to the world of work. The students have the possibility to work in a company for a period of time, complementing and enriching their training with a professional component.

The programs of cooperative training allow the student to profit from the experience and professional training he receives. This collaboration is an excellent tool for the university to check if their teaching meets the needs of the companies. The company, in turn, profits from staff highly trained in different technological fields, with no need to establish any contractual relationship, since the nature of the training agreement is academic, not occupational. This way, the companies have the oportunity to incorporate last years students of Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering for professional practice, enjoying a series of advantages that these agreements offer.

In this framework, there is also the possibility to do the Master Thesis in the Company.

This activity is regulated by means of a cooperative training agreement of limited duration, that collects the commitments and obligations of the student, the company and the ETSETB.

The Office of Corporate Relations of the Centre (CRUEC) is in charge of the follow-up of these activities.

Students' requirements
  • Only the students that have completed their first cycle at ETSETB and the ones that have entered directly to the second cycle of the Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering degrees are allowed to do a cooperative training agreement.
  • To avoid that the internships of the students in the companies interfere negatively with their academic performance, the students must accomplish these two requirements:
    • Not having failed more than a 50% of the courses registered the previous semester.
    • Not having failed more than a 50% of the courses registered in two semesters or more during their second cycle.
  • For the MINT Master students, it is a prerequisite to have passed the core semester
  • The students must have a school insurance or equivalent for the whole period of their activity in the company.
Display of vacancies and candidates' selection
  • ETSETB intranet is the means by which the students can view all the vacancies of cooperative training programs available at that moment, and send the corresponding information when they are interested in a specific offer.
  • The company selects the students on the basis of its requirements.
Academic evaluation
  • The school, by CRUE's proposal, will evaluate the student's work in accordance to the school curriculum. The ratio will be approximately one credit for every 30 hours in the company. The maximum are 20 credits for the Telecommunication Engineering degree and 10 for the Electronic Engineering degree.
  • Once the program is finished, the student is to submit a report on their work, according to the norms established by the CRUE.
  • The school will qualify the student's work after having analised the supervisor's report.
Procedure

The procedure the company must follow to sign a cooperative training agreement is the following:

  • The company, with the approval of ETSETB, defines the students' work plan and the profile to do the selection.
  • The company will assign a supervisor among its technical staff, who will be responsible for the student's training during the internship.
  • The supervisor will prepare a proposal of the work to be done by the student and define the training goals of the program.
  • The supervisor will do the follow-up and guide the student during the performance of the program in the company. Once the program is finished, he will prepare a short report to evaluate the activity developed by the student.
